realizmas statusas T sritis Politika apibrėžtis Tarptautinių santykių teorija, kuri remiasi prielaida, kad tarptautinės politikos esmę nulemia ydinga žmogaus prigimtis, skatinanti nepasitikėti kitais žmonėmis ir valstybėmis bei siekti stiprinti savo valstybės galią kaip pagrindinį saugumo ir nacionalinių interesų garantą. Šalininkai nesvarsto, kokie tarptautiniai santykiai turėtų būti, o remiasi tikrovės analize. Pasak jų, jei žmonės būtų nevaržomi valdžios ir įstatymų, jie labai greitai taptų pavojingi vieni kitiems ir negalėtų niekuo pasitikėti. Tiesa, žmonės jau įstengė sukurti civilizuotą tvarką savo valstybėse, nes jose veikia valdžia ir įstatymai. Bet žmonių kūrinių – valstybių – santykiai taip ir lieka necivilizuoti. Valstybių bendruomenėje vis dar nėra aukštesnės valdžios, kuri užtikrintų tvarką ir įstatymų laikymąsi, todėl kiekviena valstybė gali daryti ką tinkama, tuo pat metu nė viena negali būti tikra, kad netaps kita valstybės agresijos auka. Taigi kiekvienai valstybei lieka pasikliauti tiktai savimi. Natūralus kiekvienos valstybės nacionalinis interesas yra didinti savo galią, siekiant bet kuria kaina pranokti pavojingus varžovus. Realistų piešiamas tarptautinių santykių vaizdas nėra patrauklus, bet jie teigia: tokia yra tikrovė. Pasak jų, tik rūsčios tikrovės pripažinimas ir gebėjimas stiprinti valstybės galią lemia sėkmingą valstybės užsienio politiką. Nuostatą labiausiai išpopuliarino H. Morgenthau, raginęs tarptautinius santykius tirti mokslinio realizmo metodu. atitikmenys: angl. realism
